Paul Cook - Range of Split Cane and Hollow Cane Rods

All my split cane rods are hand-built and finished by myself. I aim to achieve a good quality service and each rod is inspected by myself before leaving the workshop. All rods are supplied with a good quality rod bag and polished lacquered wooden ferrule stoppers.
The rods that are available are listed below. However, I am happy to discuss making non standard rods to customer’s specifications. All rods are inscribed in Indian ink detailing maker and type of rod and customer’s name if required.

The MKIV Series
There is not much to say about these famous rods that hasn’t already been said before. Such was their popularity amongst anglers, every rod building manufacturer of the time brought out their own version of the MKIV and it is still being offered today
by modern rod builders. The MKIV series that I offer can be built copying the same close tie whippings that are synonymous to
the original B. James models if that is what the customer desires. All the rods in the MKIV series regardless of how the whipping is finished are built to the exact same tapers that Richard Walker originally used.

The ARTISAN Range of Split Cane Rods
This is my own personal range of split cane rods and all rods are built with the offer of intermediates spaced at one inch intervals and are priced accordingly. However, I can produce these rods to customer’s own requirements such as closer tie intermediates or a combination of coloured silks. Rods can also be finished without intermediates. Handle shapes available are onion, doughnut and flared trumpet. However if a different style is required to the length or shape of handle, then this can be discussed prior to ordering.

THE ARTISAN AVOCET ¾ lb TEST CURVE
This old favourite is a lovely rod to use with a crisp sweet action with a whole cane butt and split cane middle and top. With this rod, I have increased the length to 11 ft and also increased the length of the handle to 25 inches as I feel that the original handles are too short. It has lined butt and tip ring, with hard chrome stand intermediate rings. Fine silk whippings are available in green or garnet with one inch spaced intermediates graduating to ½ inch spacing's on tip section.

THE ARTISAN WIZARD 11ft 3" - ¾ TEST CURVE
This rod is based on the popular Wallis Wizard and is built with a whole cane butt and split cane middle and top. As with the equally famous Avocet, I have increased the handle length .
The rod has a test curve of ¾ lb and an overall length of 11ft.

THE ARTISAN PERFECTION 1 lb TEST CURVE
A lovely through-action rod ideal for Barbel and Tench, available in 11 or 12 feet, three piece hollow built butt and middle joint.
It has lined butt and tip ring with hard chrome stand off intermediate rings and a full 25 inch cork handle.
Silk whippings are available in green or garnet with one inch intermediates graduating to ½ inch spacing's.

THE ARTISAN CARP PERFECTION Available in 1¾ lb and 2 lb TEST CURVE
An ideal rod built with confidence in taming some of the larger carp and available in 11ft two piece.
It has full 26 inch cork handle, lined butt and tip ring and full open bridge hard chrome intermediate rings. Whipped in green or garnet with one inch spaced intermediates.

THE ARTISAN FLOAT PERFECTION ¾ lb TEST CURVE 10ft 6in and 11ft 6in
This rod is built as a general purpose float rod ideal for static fishing or trotting a favourite float.
It is a three piece split cane rod with lined butt and tip ring and silk whipped in green or garnet with one inch spaced intermediates. All intermediate rings are hard chrome stand offs. One inch intermediates graduating to ½ inch at tip.

FRED CROUCH BARBEL PERFECTION
Fred Crouch has kindly allowed me
to reproduce his favourite rod, the
barbel perfection, which are strictly limited to 25.
The rod is an 11ft 3in two piece with detachable handle.
All rods are finished in fine green or garnet whippings with intermediates at one inch intervals. It has lined butt and tip rings with chrome stand off intermediate rings and finished in
a silky smooth varnish.
The test curve to each rod is 1 ¼ lb. All ferrules come with a
fine polished lacquered wooden rod stopper for protection.
Each rod is individually signed by Fred and myself and numbered accordingly on a first-come-first-served basis.

FRED CROUCH BARBEL STALKER
This popular rod designed by Fred to accommodate the angler that prefers to rove and stalk their barbel. Once again,
Fred has kindly allowed me to resurrect this once classic rod.
Strictly limited to 25 and signed by Fred and myself and numbered accordingly. The rod is 10ft with a 1½ lb test curve. All rods are whipped in green or garnet and have one inch intermediates. Best quality reinforced ferrules with polished lacquered wooden stopper. Rod rings are lined butt and tip with hard chrome low bells intermediate rings.
